The merry, merry month of May

The month of May was a love filled time at University Heights in Greenwood Indiana. On May 11th 50 residents, with their sons and daughters filled the dining room for a mother’s day celebration. Kerry Melton, a favorite musician in the community, performed piano music while cheese cake, and drinks were served. Each woman received a corsage, and spent time reminiscing about the love between a mother and a child.
Thursday May 8th was a special day for resident Judy Skaggs and 50 of her friend’s family and staff. Judy is dealing with health problems in a heroic and stoic manner and she was honored with a special dinner provided by the Dream Foundation. The Dream Foundation was founded in 1993 by Thomas Rollerson to honor the final wishes of adults. The Dream Foundation is predicated on the idea that their mission is to enhance the quality of life for individuals and their families. Unbeknownst by Judy, she was nominated by her doctor, Stephen Rubenstein, and after careful consideration the Dream Foundation fulfilled Judy’s desire. Judy’s wish was to feed the community with a steak dinner. She was allowed fifty guests. Her family, staff, and residents, enjoyed a catered dinner by Texas Roadhouse. The meal consisted of steak, chicken, mashed potatoes, green beans and, according to Judy, “their delicious and fabulous rolls with cinnamon butter.” The activity department prepared blonde brownies for dessert. This was a time filled with the love and appreciation that is felt toward Judy and her caring, compassionate outlook.
The month of love was not finished yet. Saturday May 17th University Heights held a wedding for the daughter of resident Doris Ruse. Doris’ daughter Debbie was concerned her mom would not be able to attend her wedding, and in March, approached the administration for permission to have the wedding at the community. The wedding planning was quickly assigned to the Activities Department and Debbie Pietsch began preparations. The service was held outside on a spectacular day under the gazebo with family and friends attending. Debbie and Rex repeated their vows with a tearful and grateful Doris in the front row. The reception was held in the theatre, and for an added touch of love, three white balloons were set free to honor the passing of parents of the bride and groom.
